A new and exciting course is in the works! "Law Enforcement Culture: A Glimpse Behind the Thin Blue Line" is a one day training session for social workers and other mental health providers focused on enhancing their understanding of law enforcement, other first responder roles, and military/veteran culture. The training also sets out to foster better collaboration and communication between mental health providers and first responders, ultimately leading to improved outcomes for the individuals and communities we serve. Additionally, as responders receive culturally competent care, we in the first responder community, will be better equipped to serve our families, agencies, and communities.
The training would also help providers better understand some of the struggles and challenges faced by first responders. My hope is to strengthen relationships between mental health professionals and the first responder communities and show that we are all working toward the same goals of helping people in very difficult situations.
